Dear Redmond School District families,
Welcome back to school! In a blink of an eye summer has passed and beautiful September is here. I hope you have enjoyed the last few months of sunshine and time spent with your families! My summer was filled with farming, horses and a quick trip to the California Redwoods with my wife and children.
Redmond School District has been busy preparing for our students this summer. Just weeks ago, we welcomed 50 new educators to our district, who are all thrilled to meet you and your children. Four of our district schools have new principals (John Tuck, Obsidian, RHS and Terrebonne) and two of our secondary schools have new assistant principals (Obsidian and RHS). Together with our returning staff, we are a very strong team and we will continue to focus on people as our most valuable resource; students, staff, parents and community members.
We’ve also been hard at work implementing several safety and security enhancements both at the school and district level. A new track was installed at Obsidian Middle School. The roof at M.A. Lynch Elementary was replaced. Both Sage Elementary and Tumalo Community School received lobby/entry security upgrades. And Brown Education Center received a new roof and remodeled interior hallways.
In June, a team of district staff members and local first responders attended a FEMA sponsored training for emergency response planning for schools. This team is leading our emergency operations planning efforts this year and is bringing local agencies and partners together for the safety of our kids. I am pleased and excited about our continued partnership with the Redmond Police Department, Redmond Fire & Rescue and the Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office.
This year we have implemented a new payment option for middle and high school students and their families. Parents can now use the TouchBase payment system to pay for their student’s student body cards, class fees, athletic fees and many other expenses. To access the TouchBase system, simply visit Redmond School District online at www.redmond.k12.or.us and click the “Parent Info,” icon at the top of the website. There you will find links to TouchBase as well as the Nutrition Services meal account payment system.
Speaking of websites, I highly encourage you to stay tuned to both the district and your student’s school website. We have been hard at work to ensure our sites are up-to-date and a valuable resource to you as a parent. Our online calendar is a helpful tool to stay informed of events and important dates in our school community.
All of these things aside, our most important job is to support success for each student. Each day, we prioritize the needs of students first in our decision-making processes. We are dedicated to delivering a rigorous and relevant educational experience so that all Redmond graduates will be prepared for college and career. We are proud of the talented students and team members that make our community a wonderful place to live and work, and we hope you are too.
Please join me in celebrating this new school year for our Redmond School District community!
