RSD Board Vacancy

The Redmond School District Board of Directors is seeking qualified people to apply for a vacancy of Position #3.

The board consists of five members elected at large. Those interested must be qualified voters in the district and have been residents within the district for one year immediately preceding the appointment.

Applications will be taken until June 24th, 2016 at 5:00 p.m. Interviews will be scheduled following that date. Please contact Executive Assistant Gina Blanchette, at 541-923-8250 for more information.

Ridgeview High School Senior Named Ford Family Foundation Scholar

Ridgeview High School senior Marta Beserra has been named one of 106 Oregon Ford Family Foundation Scholars for 2016.

According to the Ford Family Foundation, eligibility criteria include financial need and merit qualifications. In addition, Scholars must attend an accredited, nonprofit college in their home state and be pursuing a bachelor’s degree full-time. The renewable scholarship covers 90 percent of each student’s unmet financial need each academic year. This year’s Ford Scholars were chosen from 6,049 applicants.

Beserra plans to pursue a nursing degree. She plans to attend COCC and OSU Cascades in Bend and will transfer to Oregon Health and Science University’s School of Nursing in Portland.

Redmond School District is set to open the Redmond Early Learning Center next school year for all of Redmond’s in-town kindergarten students!  Join us as we celebrate this new school with our Early Learning Family Festival on Saturday, June 11th from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the Hugh Hartman Campus in Redmond.

New Elementary Math Curriculum – Parent Night

Join us for pizza and learn more about our new elementary math curriculum for all of Redmond’s Elementary Schools!

Our team of district teachers and leaders have spent the last year reviewing curriculum. The team’s final recommendation is the Ready/iReady math curriculum, which has been reviewed and approved by our Board of Directors.

The lessons in Ready Mathematics use a research-based, proven-effective, gradual-release instructional model with a balance of conceptual understanding and procedural fluency to build confidence and mastery of math standards.

There will be no supervision provided for students.

Team Spotlight – Amber McCloud

Amber McCloud joined Redmond School DIstrict in the fall of 2015 as the District Pre-K/Kindergarten Transition Coordinator. Amber’s position is funded by federal grant dollars and has been incredibly valuable in assisting all of the district’s pre-kindergarten and kindergarten teachers. She takes on many tasks in her roles, like helping teachers create lesson plans, providing relief time so teachers can attend workshops and by fostering and facilitating collaboration among teachers between the district’s seven elementary schools. She also aides teachers who may need additional assistance with lesson plans for struggling students. How long have you worked for RSD  what did you do before coming here? This is my first year with Redmond School District.  Before coming to RSD, I worked as a primary teacher in Hillsboro School District for Farmington View Elementary.  It is small school with one teacher per grade level.  I taught kindergarten, third grade and a 2/3 split.  I loved that I had the opportunity to teach my students as kindergarteners as well as third graders.  The school was surrounded by country fields and vineyards.  Prior to …

Pre-Kindergarten Screenings

The Title 1A PreKindergarten Screening events on April 27 & May 4, 2016 were very successful!

More than 50 children were screened for the Title 1A PreK open slots and families will be notified the week of May 23rd of their qualification status.

At this time screenings have closed for this program. RSD would like to thank Healthy Beginnings, Deschutes Public Library, and Head Start for their participation and assistance in the screening events.
