Vern Patrick Elementary class awarded $500 for technology projects

Today, KTVZ’s Samantha O’Connor visited Vern Patrick Elementary’s media and technology research class along with Kyle Frick and Wayne Hanson of Mid Oregon Credit Union to award a check for $500 as part of the makerspace project.

A makerspace is a collaborative work space inside a school, library or separate public/private facility for making, learning, exploring and sharing that uses high tech to no tech tools.

The generous grant money from Mid Oregon Credit Union will go toward funding projects for the class and providing items such as soldering kits, circuit board kits, small electronics, robotics kits and supplies for woodworking and inventing. The money will also be used for organizational materials to keep supplies clean, contained and readily accessible.

Before today’s check presentation, students from the class participated in an Oregon Trail wagon race powered by Sphero programmable robots.
