A Message from Mike McIntosh

Dear Parents, Students and Community Members,

They say if you want something done, find someone that is really busy. With that said, at Redmond School District we are busy accomplishing a ton of stuff for the good of kids. Every employee, every parent and every community partner are doing more than their part to create a climate of success for each child. Thank you, thank you, thank you.

I cannot believe it’s March already! Seems like just yesterday we were celebrating New Year’s. As we brace ourselves for spring break and everything else that’s going on in your busy household, I’d like to share a few things that we’ve been working on to maintain a safe environment for your children when they are in our classrooms. I have not had the opportunity to share with you in awhile.

As I’ve mentioned before, our first and most important priority is providing a safe and nurturing environment for each and every child to grow and succeed. I would like to share a few key items about RSD and this issue:

In January, …

Open Enrollment Parent Information Nights

Believing in creating stronger partnerships with parents, Redmond School District would like to invite parents, students and community members to attend any or all of the parent Information nights. The express purpose is to share information regarding the open enrollment process and showcase our school options. This is the second year of the implementation of House Bill 3681 which allows school districts to receive students from other school districts and provides a mechanism for students to change schools within our own district. We will be holding two information nights, one at each high school in hopes that those interested can attend one or the other. We believe that we were able to accommodate the majority of those that wanted a transfer last year, so we are focusing on the transition of grade 5 students as they move to middle school and grade 8 students as they move to one of our high schools.

The format for the meetings will be a general session describing the process and available capacity at each school followed by breakout sessions for three levels; elementary, …

RSD to Offer Open Enrollment in March

The Redmond School District board of directors has voted to be a receiving district during open enrollment for the 2013-2014 school year.

This is the second year the district has chosen to participate in open enrollment since the adoption of Oregon House Bill 3681. The law, which went into effect last year, allows students to transfer to school districts outside of their legal residence if a student receives written consent from the receiving district. Students already enrolled at RSD may also request to transfer to a different school than what has been assigned to them. The open transfer request period for grades K-12 is March 1 through April 1.

Redmond Schools will be hosting public informational sessions for parents and students who desire to transfer within or to Redmond Schools. The first session will be held at 6:30 p.m. on March 12 at the Ridgeview High School auditorium. The second session will be held at 6:30 p.m. on March 18 in the Redmond High School auditorium.

“The district believes that every family should have the opportunity to choose among quality …

Redmond School District has received the 2011-12 release of high school graduation statistics from the Oregon Department of Education.

In 2011-12, Redmond High School, the district’s largest high school program, revealed a graduation rate of 77.3%, a significant 8.5% increase over last year. Ridgeview High School, which is in its inaugural year of operations and has no seniors, was not included in the report data.

These rates are based on a 5-year graduation cohort, which accounts for students who are engaged in the school’s Advanced Diploma program. The program is designed to allow students to participate in an accelerated college credit program by earning college credits during a fifth year of high school enrollment. It was created to increase the number of students pursuing post-secondary studies, which has been a strongly supported initiative in Oregon.

“The Redmond School District has made a significant priority to achieve the state’s 40-40-20 goals for 100% high school completion,” said Superintendent Mike McIntosh. “We are dedicated to ensuring our students’ success in our district and in their future endeavors.”

The findings additionally detail that …
