RSD Fall Reentry Update 7.20.20

Good afternoon Redmond School District families,

Redmond School District is ready to support our students as we reenter the 2020-2021 school year in a safe and inclusive environment. The district is developing plans that follow ODE’s Ready Schools, Safe Learner’s guidance, which continues to evolve over the course of the pandemic. It is our deepest desire to see our students in person but know that the health and safety of our students, staff and community is of utmost priority.

A few weeks ago we shared our preliminary plans for the fall, which involves the following options for return to school, from which parents will make a choice:

Elementary (K-5th):

Full-Time On-Site (All In), or Full-Time Online

Middle & High School (6th-12th):

On-Site & Online (Hybrid), or Full-Time Online

To help you understand these options and navigate your decision for the fall, we’ve created the following website: Please click the link to register for the option that will work best for you and your child.

On our Fall 2020 website, you can learn about these options, view videos …

Redmond School District Fall Reentry Plans

July 3, 2020

Good afternoon Redmond School District Community,

This is my first week with the Redmond School District and I am honored to be part of this incredible district and beautiful community. I hope that this email finds you and your family safe and healthy as we approach a long holiday weekend. I cannot tell you how much we appreciate your continued engagement during these challenging times. Although rules are changing rapidly, I want to assure you that the district is working tirelessly to develop a re-entry plan for the fall that is safe and inclusive with a variety of options for all students.

Two weeks ago we asked you to complete a survey regarding your family’s readiness and preference to return to school next fall. Your feedback clearly illustrated that a safe return to in-person instruction with flexible learning options was a top priority.

I want you to know that Redmond School District will strive to provide on-site instruction to as many students as possible for as much time as possible. Using the Oregon Department of Education’s …

Redmond School District Fall Reopening Plans

June 17, 2020

Good afternoon Redmond School District Families,

Last week the Oregon Department of Education released Version 1 of Ready Schools, Safe Learners for Oregon school districts as they plan for the 2020-2021 school year. Since the release of this guidance, Redmond School District’s leaders have been working to review the recommendations and develop a plan that will be the right fit for students and families in Redmond, Oregon.

Redmond School District will strive to provide on-site instruction to as many students as possible for as much time as possible. Using ODE’s guidance, Redmond School District will develop reopening structures and practices that are safe, inclusive, and flexible. Our district’s leaders are developing a plan that prepares for future pandemic outbreaks to include a swift response to pivot learning strategies to mitigate gaps in our students’ education.

The district will collaborate with our local public health authority to provide a solution that meets the Oregon Health Authority’s guidelines for a safe reentry to school. The Ready Schools, Safe Learners guidance outlines a number of strategies ranging from physical …

A Message from Superintendent McIntosh, June 12, 2020

Hello Redmond School District Community,

I write to you today in the spirit of celebration, despite the way this school year has drawn to a close. Who would have guessed that we would be waving goodbye to each other and our students virtually. I miss the moment at the end of the day when we stood in the bus zone waving goodbye and cheering as the summer break began. Admittedly, this has been a wild ride since the announcement that schools would be closed beginning in March. I, like many of you, really miss the personal contact and ability to communicate in real time and in person. But in the end, we have in fact navigated the close of the 2020 school year and along the way done our very best to support our students and their families in very positive ways.

I celebrate with you the distance we have come and the tremendous amount of care and passion you poured into making education happen in a new paradigm. We have learned much and will lean into the future in …

Winter Break Resources

Hello Redmond School District Families,

As we enter our first day of winter break, I want to thank you all for an incredible start to the 2019-20 school year. We have had a lot to celebrate, from the accomplishments of our students to the hard work of our talented district team.

And while there is much to celebrate, I recognize that the holiday season can be a stressful time for some children and families. Breaks from school mean changes to routines and extra demands on time. I believe we should ensure that our students are aware of the multiple avenues available to them to share information that concerns them, 24-hours a day.

Two years ago, the First Step App, a suite of tip and talk resources available on every student’s Chromebook in grades 6-12. We hope to encourage students to reach out when they needed help or wanted to connect with staff, law enforcement or resources. This tool has been a resounding success and has been embraced by students. First Step has received more than 14,000 visits and has …

Welcome Back from the Superintendent

Dear Redmond School District families,

Welcome back to school!  In a blink of an eye summer has passed and beautiful September is here.  I hope you have enjoyed the last few months of sunshine and time spent with your families!  My summer was filled with farming, horses and a quick trip to the California Redwoods with my wife and children.

Redmond School District has been busy preparing for our students this summer.  Just weeks ago, we welcomed 50 new educators to our district, who are all thrilled to meet you and your children.  Four of our district schools have new principals (John Tuck, Obsidian, RHS and Terrebonne) and two of our secondary schools have new assistant principals (Obsidian and RHS).  Together with our returning staff, we are a very strong team and we will continue to focus on people as our most valuable resource; students, staff, parents and community members.

We’ve also been hard at work implementing several safety and security enhancements both at the school and district level.  A new track was installed at Obsidian Middle School.  The roof …

A Message from Mike McIntosh

Dear Parents, Students and Community Members,

They say if you want something done, find someone that is really busy. With that said, at Redmond School District we are busy accomplishing a ton of stuff for the good of kids. Every employee, every parent and every community partner are doing more than their part to create a climate of success for each child. Thank you, thank you, thank you.

I cannot believe it’s March already! Seems like just yesterday we were celebrating New Year’s. As we brace ourselves for spring break and everything else that’s going on in your busy household, I’d like to share a few things that we’ve been working on to maintain a safe environment for your children when they are in our classrooms. I have not had the opportunity to share with you in awhile.

As I’ve mentioned before, our first and most important priority is providing a safe and nurturing environment for each and every child to grow and succeed. I would like to share a few key items about RSD and this issue:

In January, …
